Welcome to Car Game UK, the site that is all about car games,
Our goal is to search the web for the best car games, and bring them here so you can play them on one place.
If you'll encounter a game that you think we and the site's audience will like too, please drop us a line, our contact details are available on the "contact us" page, you can view it using the link on the bottom of this page.
Basically, we prefer games which are unique within their category, having great gameplay, graphics or some special feature or an idea. Also, they can't have too intrusive advertisements or pop-ups... you got the idea.
The world discovered the joy of car games back in 1977 when the first racing game "Indy 500"was published by Atari inc. for the Atari 2600 video console, it was quite a simple game, with two racing cars rushing to complete 25 laps, you could play against a friend, or against the console, it even had few different tracks to choose from, and two difficulty levels.
Actually, The Odyssey console had an earlier racing game, called Wipeout, few years earlier (1972), It was a hybrid between video game and board game, and had a separately included board with the racing track.
On these early days of arcade machines and home consoles many car racing and driving games were developed, the most famous ones were Night Driver, 1980, and Grand Prix 1982 for the Atari Console, and Donkey, 1981 for IBM PC.
Few famous games were developed by Sega for the Sega Master System - among them, the World Grand Prix - F1 racing game which had an in game editor to create new tracks.
Even Konami (the guys that develop the Metal Gear series) joined the party with their own racing game, called Hyper Rally.
As gaming technology advanced, games with better graphics and better driving/physics simulations were introduces, Indianapolis 500 by Electronic Arts (1989) - which I got as a birthday present! - was one of them, one of the game options was a full, exhausting, 200 laps race, you could also tune few aspects of the car such as tire pressure and turbo output.
The 90's brought us few of the prominent car games series, most of them are still alive and well-sold today.
in 1994 Electronic Arts created Need for Speed - back then it was called "The need for speed", one of the best racing games ever created, you could choose between ultra fast cars such as Dodge Viper, Mazda RX7, Acura NSX and others, and race through a selection of routes, the game also had the option to switch between first and third person views.
The Need for Speed game series is still being published by EA, so far it had 14 sequels.
Another iconic game which is still published today, is Gran Turismo, commonly abbreviated GT, which was first released on 97 for the Sony PlayStation by Polyphony Digital, a part of Sony computer Entertainment Group.
A very controversial game at that time was 3D destruction derby, also known as "Carmageddon", The game was completely banned in few countries due to the in-game violence, and was censored in few others, Including the UK, to have Robots instead of people.
Today, you can play car games on the PC, consoles like Xbox 360 and PlayStation, or in your browser as casual flash games.
We hope you will find here the best racing, parking and drifting flash games.
Have Fun!
